Solexx Commercial Greenhouse Review in Southern California
The Center for Applied Horticultural Research has been testing Solexx in Southern California for several years and are getting incredible results.
Solexx vs Film Greenhouse Plastic
- The plants grown under Solexx consistently outperformed those grown under film.
- Plants grown under Solexx consistently displayed more compact growth than those grown under film.
- CfAHR has replaced the film on the connecting greenhouses frequently, and never had a damaged Solexx panel.
The Benefits Solexx Diffuse Light
- Plants were ready for market a full 10-16 days prior to target dates using traditional planting schedules.
- Full sun and full shade plants were grown side by side under Solexx with no deleterious effects for plants requiring either extreme. There was no sun scalding or leaf burn in shade plants, and plants requiring full sun grew faster than those under film.
- The diffuse light and higher red spectrum (suspected – not verified) reduces the need for PGRs (Plant Growth Regulators – these are added to the plant to interfere with plant hormones to keep the plants from stretching out and getting leggy)
- CfAHR purchased Solexx to build light chambers to create diffuse light for succulent tissue culture in their polycarbonate greenhouses.
- Plants grown in Solexx for plant trials were grown with only biological insect control. This is a significant indication of reduced plant stress.
The Benefits of Solexx Insulation
- CfAHR tested Poinsettias for Altman Plants in the test greenhouse using no additional heat. Altman reported using Solexx was the only time they were able to grow a crop anywhere in California without additional heat due to the Insulation of Solexx.
- Plants grown for trials did not require a hardening off period.
